BringIt! FandangoNow Movies + TV for Apple TV
Most of us know Fandango as the website we go to for movie theater schedules and reservations. Some of us know it as that gift card we buy when there are no cards available for the theater chains in our area. Streamers, however, have a different take with the FandangoNow service, which provides digital movie and TV rentals and streams to pretty much every device except for Apple TV.
With a FandangoNow or Fandango VIP account and the accompanying app, you can gain access to upwards of 80,000 movies and TV shows for rental (including a nice selection of content available in 4K.), with no subscription required. This includes everything from timeless classics to brand new content that’s not yet available on Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime Video. Content can be added to a Watchlist for easy retrieval, and those with an UltraViolet account can link it to FandangoNow for easy access to their UltraViolet library (something you may want to do before UltraViolet shuts down on July 31st). Rentals are available for 30 days after purchase and stick around for 48 hours after you start watching them.
Although the FandangoNow service launched in 2016, the app is still unavailable for Apple TV. iOS and macOS are supported (along with Android devices, Windows XP and above, Roku, Xbox and Google Chromecast), but not the Apple product that’s actually best for displaying content on your TV. It seems a missed opportunity, although one that has been missed by many streaming media services.
Fandango has yet to respond to our request for information on a possible tvOS release of the FandangoNow app, but we will update this article when we hear back. In the meantime, you can stream the FandangoNow content from your iPhone or iPad to Apple TV via AirPlay, or just continue to rent your movies and TV shows through iTunes, which provides a similar setup and prices.
Ultimately, then FandangoNow isn’t an app we need on Apple TV. For those with an account for mobile access, however, it would sure be a welcome addition to our rental options while at home.
