Criterion Collection of classic movies launching on tvOS in April at $11 a month
The Criterion Collection announced Thursday it will launch its all-new Criterion Channel classic movie streaming service April 8 in the United States and Canada for $10.99 a month.
Subscribers will have access to over 1,000 classic and contemporary with new showcased content each day along with filmmaker recommendations from the likes of Barry Jenkins, Guillermo del Toro, and Mira Nair.
The Criterion Channel will also be available for a discounted annual subscription price of $99.99. Consumers signing up before April 8th will pay a discounted price of $9.99 a month or $89.99 a year with those prices locked in for as long as the account is active.
The Criterion Channel will be available on Apple TV, the web, iPhone, iPad, Android, Fire TV, and Roku devices, the company said.
The new service is the result of the closing of the classic film streaming service FilmStruck, which went out of business in November of 2018 after AT&T purchased Warner Media, which saw the service as a duplication of its plans to launch a direct-to-consumer service later this year.
