The BEST Christmas screen savers for Apple TV

Christmas is just around the weekend. If your house is anything like mine, that means the next couple days will be filled with baking, cleaning, and otherwise preparing for creenanta’s annual visit. If you want something in the background to help keep the mood festive, a Christmas-themed Apple TV screen saver is a great option.

Over the past couple weeks we’ve pointed you to some great options for fireplaces, snowfall, and Christmas lights. But which ones are the best? We’ve helpfully gathered them all right here, like your favorite uncles around the holiday booze.

Snow Storm Live

Developer: William Alexander
Price: Free (with in-app purchases)

You’d think with this title that it’s our choice for the BEST snowfall app. Or the best excuse-to-stay-home-from-work app. But no, we like this one for the Christmas lights. Whether you like your lights outdoors beneath a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow or indoors…beneath a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow…Snow Storm Live has you covered.

Select your backdrop, start the snow, then swipe left/right on your Siri Remote to control the amount, speed, size and direction of the snow. It’s quite relaxing and festive, and not nearly as garish as some of your other Christmas lights app options.

Winter Wonderland

Developer: Kabuki Vision, LLC
Price: Free (with in-app purchases)

This one is our choice for the BEST snowfall app. What separates Winter Wonderland from the other available snowfall apps is the quality of the videos, all of which are captured in 1080p at 60fps.

It’s not actively snowing in all of the videos, but you do get it in the scene pictured above, which is included in the free download. After that, you can purchase four more scenes for $0.99 each or $1.99 for the whole package. They’re all so photo-realistic that you may want to have some hot chocolate ready for those sitting too close to your TV.

Amazing Fireplace

Developer: Atikur Rahman
Price: Free (with in-app purchases)

Following an afternoon of out in a virtual snowfall you may want to warm up in front of a virtual fireplace. An Amazing Fireplace, in fact.

The drawback here is that video you get for free is a campfire; fun, but not festive for the holidays. To get a good fireplace video you’ll have to pay $0.99 for option number 5. That IAP will get you nicely colored, gentle flames with a pleasing amount of pop/crackle. It’s enough to provide some glow for your living room, but not so much that it endangers Santa.

Any of these screen savers/wallpapers will do the trick this holiday season, but be sure to tell us if you have some favorites of your own. We’ll poor you a glass of eggnog and discuss.
