WWDC 2018: Apple to add out-of-this-world Ariels from space

Apple has announced an enhancement is coming this fall to its ‘Ariels’ screensavers as part of tvOS 12 with the addition of videos taken on board the International Space Station in 4K, high-definition.

Called ‘Earth,’ they are stunning videos from space, taken by astronauts on board the ISS in collaboration with the International Space Station National Lab, a governmental agency, and the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space, who oversee the lab.

Apple also revealed aerial screensavers, as part of Apple TV, will also be more interactive, allowing viewers to see the location information and swipe between dozens of new and existing images.

Additional tvOS 12 features for Apple TV 4K and Apple TV 4th generation will include:
  • With iOS 12, users can securely AutoFill passwords from iPhone and iPad to Apple TV to easily sign in to Apple TV apps.
  • The Apple TV Remote will be automatically added to Control Center on iPhone or iPad for Apple TV users, giving users quick access to Apple TV controls.
  • Home control systems like Control4, Crestron and Savant can be used to control Apple TV, including using Siri for voice search and control.

The announcements were made Monday at Apple’s World Developers Conference 2018 in San Jose, Calif.
