Games fire across

Add “Fire Across” to your Apple TV arcade

We’ve talked before about our desire to turn our Apple TV into a retro arcade of sorts. Although there’s a lack of official arcade game ports, it’s not too hard to find quality knock-offs such as Invaders From Space. Now, you can add Jon Tollefson’s Fire Across to that list.

Less a knock-off than an homage to the spirit of ’80s arcade games, Fire Across is a space action game that looks and feels exactly like the type of cabinet you’d dump a quarter into while waiting for the Pac-Man line to shrink. And, of course, it comes with a typical arcade-style premise of simple hopelessness.

You command a space ship with the latest Binomiam technology. Be a hero by protecting the Binomians from their mortal enemy, the Trinomians.

In other words, you’re all alone, hold out as long as you can, but don’t expect to win. Remember, these games were meant to kick you off in short order so the next person could pay play.

Although Fire Across draws inspiration from the arcades, it’s modern enough to support multiple inputs; you can play the game with your Siri Remote or MFi controller. We’ll take this opportunity to remind you to go buy the SteelSeries Nimbus if you haven’t already.

Fire Across is available now in the App Store for $0.99. For more information (including a gameplay manual!), visit
