Minesweeper Genius explodes onto Apple TV
If you’ve ever been forced to sit in front of a Windows PC, chances are pretty good you’ve played Minesweeper. The game was killing office productivity long before Facebook was ever a thing, and now it can kill your time at home, as well, with the release of Minesweeper Genius for iOS and tvOS.
There are actually quite a few Minesweeper knock-offs already available for Apple TV, but Minesweeper Genius from Mother Gaia Studio offers a different twist on the classic puzzle gameplay. Rather than just click a block on the gameboard to either reveal a mine or to clear blocks away that don’t border a mine, you’re provided hints at the start as to where the mines may be. Blocks in the top row and first column tell you how many mines are in that column/row, and you must then place your flags on the blocks where you believe the mines are located. You then release Aristotle (the titular genius) with the hope that the path you’ve created guides him to the portal.
Levels in Minesweeper Genius are procedurally generated, so the game is likely to keep you challenged and entertained for quite some time. It also helps that the simple control system is easy to handle with the Siri Remote. And should you also want to play it on your iPhone or iPad, iCloud saves will allow you to swap between your devices on one account.
Minesweeper Genius is available now for $1.99 in the App Store.
