Apps reef life

What’s new for Apple TV, January 3rd, 2019

A bit of slow start for new Apple TV apps this year, but that won’t matter to arcade skaters or those seeking to live the reef life.

We’ve got some big updates, too, for fan-favorite apps such as VAST – Cosmic Treasure Hunters and Sling TV. Check out the links below.

Prices provided below are accurate at press time. Free downloads are for the app only and may require a subscription or in-app purchases for full functionality.

New Apple TV Apps:

  • Tap Skaters (free) – It’s not enough to make slides, flip tricks and grinds, you’ll also need to collect hamburgers and catch robbers in this one-touch arcade game. And because it’s 2019, you’ll be able to decorate a room, too.
  • Reef Life TV ($4.99) – That’s “reef” life. Just reef. As in fish. Identify and learn about 2,435 species of fish from 17 categories. A handy resource for divers or anyone interested in marine life.
  • Driftly ($0.99) – I can’t help but recall all those hours I spent playing Night Driver on the Atari 2600.
  • Pong Screensaver (free) – Randomly generated Pong matches between AI opponents. It’s not a game, it’s a screensaver, and it’s glorious. Check out our full write-up for more info.

Updated Apple TV Apps:

  • VAST – Cosmic Treasure Hunters ($19.99) – A first-person shooter adventure built from the ground-up exclusively for Apple TV, VAST is worth every penny of its $20.00 asking price. With the update, continued hotfixes for “Titanium Moth” are now live.
  • Disney Crossy Road (free) – Can someone tell me if Maximillian from The Black Hole is a playable character? It’s not mentioned in the update notes.
  • Sling TV: Stream Live TV Now (free) – The Apple TV app gets a major update to its UI. Check out our earlier coverage for details.
  • Amazing Fireplaces in HD ($1.99) – Warm up this winter with your choice of fake fireplaces, now with improved online load times.
  • TV Tweets for Twitter (free) – View your Twitter timeline on your TV. The update comes with plenty of new features for 2019, including timeline and widget updates.
  • Webcam World View (free) – A bit late, but this collection of hundreds of hidden webcam feeds has been updated with a winter design and special holiday cameras and videos.
