What’s new for Apple TV, October 4th, 2018

The new Apple TV apps this past week have brought us fire, Hordes of Enemies, and…Ming the Merciless? It’s true, and it doesn’t stop there. We’ve also got hockey to watch, golf vacations to plan, asteroids to destroy, and plenty more.

Prices provided below are accurate at press time. Free downloads are for the app only and may require a subscription or in-app purchases for full functionality.

New Apple TV Apps:

  • Hordes of Enemies (free) – Exactly what you’d expect from the title, this game places your movie-inspired character against a ton of enemies and lets you battle it out. Pixelated blood is optional.
  • The Golf Advisor (free) – Getting too cold to golf in your area? This app features exclusive content of the world’s best golf destinations to help you plan your next golf-centric vacation.
  • 4K Fireplace ($1.99) – We featured this seamless looping fireplace screensaver earlier this week, but want to make sure you didn’t miss it.
  • 247 Retro (free) – Live streams of classic shows, movie serials and films, featuring names like Flash Gordon, Sherlock Holmes, the Green Hornet, Dick Tracy, and more. No subscription required!
  • AstroBlast ($0.99) – Detect surface vulnerabilities to destroy cubed-shaped asteroids at intense speeds…all with just one finger!
  • AHL TV (free) – Subscription-based service to let you watch live games of your favorite American Hockey League team. Check our earlier coverage for service and subscription details.

Updated Apple TV Apps:

  • PBS Kids Video (free) – Stream PBS content 24/7 with no subscription or login needed. The complete 2.0 update brings a simplified viewing experience for kids and additional controls for parents.
  • Atomic Hangman (free) – Traditional Hangman “… reinvented with a comedic and treacherous twist.” the update adds new letter bombs and treasure chests.
  • Webcam World View (free) – Tap into hundreds of webcam feeds from around the world. Requires a subscription.
  • Guitar Lessons – Guitar Tricks (free) – Accessing the full content will cost you $180/year, but there’s enough in the free version to get you started on guitar.
