The best Christmas TV companions for Apple TV 4K
An Apple TV 4K is part of a pairing sort of like steak and potatoes. Like thunder and lightning. Like Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
In case you didn’t get the point, an Apple TV 4K goes together – no, more like it has to go together – with a television and if it’s not a 4K-ready TV, it’s like fish without chips. So if you’re giving or getting an Apple TV 4K this holiday season, finding the right 4K TV with the right features and the right price is essential.
Here are four 4K TVs that should be high on the consideration list…
If money is no object, this is the current state-of-the-art (at least until the Consumer Electronics Show in January) with absolutely the best picture. Can I just say…OMG! I’ve seen this TV in action and for about the first few weeks you just keep saying to yourself, “This is an awesome picture!” The blacks are incredibly perfect, the color is beyond accurate and the brightness is spot on. It’s compatible with both major HDR formats and if you’re looking for Dolby Atmos audio support for the future when Apple TV 4K adds support for it, you’ll be ready. This is the ultimate in a TV experience.
It’s not OLED, but the affordable TCL P series has excellent image quality, with deep black levels, rich contrast and accurate color. Its got Roku built in (which can be a good second streaming platform for certain apps not available on AppleTV). The TV handles both HDR10 and Dolby Vision high dynamic range sources. This is a great 55-inch TV that’s hard to beat for the price.
This is probably the best 4K TV out there that’s not OLED. Superb 4K image clarity, powerful SDR-to-HDR remastering, and a smooth direct LED backlight make it a great choice. With strong image consistency and vibrancy, its got an exceptional HDR picture with smooth motion handling. Sony doesn’t sell crap, and this TV proves it.
We earlier recommended the king of OLED’s. Let’s now show you one of the best and most affordable. The LG B7 series comes in at a great mid-range price that delivers a high brightness OLED panel in a stylish design, 2160p image quality and HDR10 with Dolby vision support. Where this TV lets you down is in audio. Its speakers are pointed down (if you can believe that) which leaves for poor sound quality and there is no Dolby Atmos passthrough to make matters worse. With this TV your best solution is an external sound system. Add a nice Sonos or Bose audio solution and together with this TVs impressive image quality you’ve got a beast of a media system.
So there you have it. Four great 4K TVs that span the spectrum of price, features and quality to take full advantage of your Apple TV 4K for years to come.
Better than any soup and salad combo I can think of!
