Apple cuts exclusive TV production deal with blockbuster director Justin Lin
Just days following news that Apple had landed an exclusive Peanuts content deal for its upcoming streaming service, word came Monday of another exclusive deal, this time with Fast and Furious director Justin Lin.
According to a report from Variety, Apple has signed an exclusive TV development deal with Lin’s Perfect Storm Entertainment TV company. As part of the agreement, Andrew Schneider has come on board to run operations. Schneider was most recently head of TV for multi-platform production company Free Association and previously worked at Fox 21 Television Studios.
Lin, 47, is best known for his Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift remake that lifted the movie franchise that had stalled in box office revenue. He is currently working on the ninth installment of this series.
Lin is best known for his directorial work on Star Trek Beyond and several shows for Sony Television and CBS including Scorpion and Magnum P.I.
A recent Wired profile described him as “the most important blockbuster director you’ve never heard of” and a “mogul-in-the-making.”
Whatever Lin produces for Apple, it will be one of over 17 original TV series and movies now in production for Apple’s streaming video service, expected to launch in 2019.
