“Bob’s Burgers” creator next up for Apple TV programming

Apple continues to roll out programming announcements for the forthcoming (and still mysterious) streaming media service, and they’ve now added their first animated show. Central Park—a comedy from 20th Century Fox and Bob’s Burgers creator Loren Bouchard—has been given a two-season, 26 episode order.

As reported by VarietyCentral Park is being written by Bouchard, Josh Gad and Nora Smith. And unlike some shows in Apple’s slate of programming, we actually have a good idea of what this one will be about; a family of caretakers who live and work in Central Park end up having to save the park and, ultimately, the world.

As you would expect from Josh Gad’s involvement (having starred in The Book of Mormon, Frozen and Beauty and the Beast) Central Park will be a musical. The series will also star Leslie Odom Jr., Titus Burgess, Kristen Bell, Stanley Tucci, Daveed Diggs, and Kathryn Hahn.

So, when and how will we be able to start watching Central Park and Apple’s other shows? We still don’t know. During a talk at SXSW, Apple’s senior vice president, Eddy Cue, focused more on the quality of the programs they’re selecting than on details of the service.

“We’re not after quantity, we’re after quality,” Cue said. “We’re completely all in…We think there’s a huge opportunity…Money isn’t an issue.”

He did, however, address the rumors that Apple may be buying Netflix, stating Apple doesn’t have a history of purchasing large, existing companies, focusing instead on “…something that will be the next thing.”

Whether Apple’s original programming will be that next thing remains to be seen, but the company is certainly prepping a pretty diverse lineup to help it along.
