CES: Kanex rolls out GoPlay Series of MFi game controllers

The number of MFi compatible games is quickly growing for iPhone and iPad as old games are updated and new games have the external control functionality built right in. That number isn’t growing as quickly for Apple TV, but considering how much better games play on a gamepad than on Apple’s Siri Remote, one good game is enough to need one good controller.

If you’ve got that game, Kanex has announced a line of MFi controllers called the GoPlay Series. The first entry—the GoPlay SideKick—will be on display this week at CES 2017 in booth #8906 in the Las Vegas Convention Center North Hall, near the N4 entrance.

The GoPlay SideKick is…

… a pocket-sized wireless game controller for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. Certified by Apple, this portable controller works with almost any controller-supported game on the App Store. The rechargeable battery provides 20 hours of gameplay and uses Bluetooth 4.0 to connect to your device. The patent pending, innovative clamshell case protects your controller and serves as a stand to prop up your device and experience console-like gameplay wherever you go.

20 hours isn’t a lot when compared to some other options on the market, but it’s more than enough for multiple gaming sessions and allows for a compact design that’s as portable as your iPhone. MFi certified and specifically made for iOS, the GoPlay SideKick controller connects wirelessly to your device and works with any controller-supported game on the App store.

Features include:

  • Console-like Gameplay – With a layout inspired by traditional console controllers, Kanex GoPlay offers a more refined level of control than your touchscreen. Featuring pressure-sensitive buttons, dual analog joysticks, trigger buttons and a D-pad, you’ll enjoy precision control for your favorite mobile games.
  • Portable Play – Boasting a handy compact design, Kanex GoPlay SideKick’s innovative, patent pending protective clamshell case has an integrated stand to prop up your iPhone for the best view during game play. When not in use, this portable device effortlessly fits in your pocket or bag. The convenient rechargeable battery uses your iPhone’s Lightning cable to power up. A single charge provides up to 20 hours of gameplay.

  • Apple Certified – Kanex GoPlay is Apple MFi Certified, which means it’s specifically made for Apple iPhone, iPad and Apple TV so you can expect quality performance and reliability.

Its small and compact size doesn’t prevent the Kanex GoPlay SideKick from being a flexible, solid controller. In my hands, it felt good with positive, tactile feedback. Its included carrying case gives it added protection—that is if you put it away when not using it. The case is something that differentiates it from the competition.

The new Kanex GoPlay SideKick will be available this February for $59.95.
