Chris Evans to star in ‘Defending Jacob’ drama series for Apple

Apple has ordered the new drama series Defending Jacob, which will star Chris Evans, according to reports Thursday from Deadline and Variety.

The series is based on the 2012 best-selling novel of the same name by William Landay. It tells the story of a father whose 14-year-old son is accused of murder.

The series was created and written by Mark Bomback, known for the Planet of the Apes trilogy. It will be a limited-run drama ordered straight to series. Evans also will be executive-produce on the project.

Chris Evans is best known for his roles in Captain America and The Avengers. This will mark Evans’ first regular television role since he appeared in the miniseries Opposite Sex back in 2000, which was his only regular TV role to date.

Defending Jacob is just one of over 17 original television shows Apple has authorized. Apple has yet to explain how it plans to distribute its content, but has given the impression it is leaning toward launching a new streaming video service that might be bundled with other media content including music, magazines, and news. Rumors suggest the first of Apple’s television shows could debut in March 2019.
