UPDATE: DirecTV NOW plans revamp of free Apple TV 4K deal

UPDATE: In the interest of total transparency, while is re-releasing this story, we have been informed that additional details could be forthcoming. We caution that while we feel confident in our reporting, further specifics of the offer are anticipated.

The live streaming service DirecTV NOW plans on giving a free Apple TV 4K (32gb) set-top box with every new four-month prepaid subscription beginning this Friday, November 17th through the end of the year, has learned.

The offer comes to a total of $140 paid up front for the service, a savings of $179 on the fifth-generation 4K model.

The offer requires subscribers to pay via credit card or PayPal. Online orders will be shipped via FedEx ground, allowing up to three weeks for delivery.

The planned offer was reported to by customers who saw mentions of it on multiple message forums related to the service. A spokesperson for AT&T, the parent company of DirecTV NOW, was not immediately available for comment and for further details of the offer.

As we first reported November 8th, DirecTV NOW is celebrating its one-year anniversary with a $25 discount for the first month to all new subscribers of any package when they sign up with the promo code “BDAY2017” at checkout. The offer is good until the end of 2017.

The planned offer will not be the first time DirecTV NOW has promoted a free Apple TV. It did the same in November of last year when the service debuted and just this past August on three-month prepaid subscriptions.

DirecTV NOW has more than 800,000 subscribers nationwide based on numbers from AT&Ts 2017 second-quarter earnings report.

DirecTV NOW launched in November of 2016 using the Apple TV app with an entry-level package price of $35 per month for over 60 channels. For optimal streaming, DirecTV NOW recommends a minimum of 12 Mbps for broadband connections to the home and to an Apple TV set-top box.
