DirecTV Now turns one with $25 off birthday gift

The subscription streaming TV service DirecTV Now is celebrating its one-year anniversary with a $25 discount for the first month to all new subscribers, the service has announced.

New subscribers only can get the discount using the promo code “BDAY2017” at checkout when signing up for the service. The service will auto-renew after 1 month unless canceled.

DirecTV Now launched in November of 2016 using the Apple TV app and has an entry-level package price of $35 per month for over 60 channels. The service now has more than 800,000 subscribers.

DirecTV Now also announced it has three new live, local broadcast TV feeds:

  • NBC affiliate in Birmingham, AL (WVTM-13/Hearst Television)
  • CBS affiliate in Oklahoma City, OK (KWTV/Griffin Communications)
  • CBS affiliate in Tulsa, OK (KOTV/Griffin Communications)

With the latest affiliate additions, DirecTV Now said it now offers 190 live local stations to more than 75 percent of U.S. households.

AT&T – the parent company of DirecTV Now and DirecTV – has announced it is planning a major revamping of its streaming TV service with improvements like a simpler, streamlined user interface, pay-per-view events, a cloud DVR service and more channels. That upgrade is expected in the first quarter of 2018.
