Dolby Atmos-enabled movies now available in iTunes

Apple announced at WWDC 2018 that they’ll finally be bringing Dolby Atmos support to Apple TV when tvOS 12 rolls out this fall. Ahead of its release, early adopters of tvOS 12 beta 2 have reported that a few movies in iTunes are already Atmos enabled.

Of course, you’ll need more than just an Apple TV 4K and the tvOS 12 beta 2 to take advantage of it. Designed to provides a more immersive audio experience than traditional surround sound systems by bouncing sound off the ceiling, Dolby Atmos requires an Atmos-equipped sound system such as the $890 Samsung HW-K950 5.1.4 Channel Soundbar and $900 LG SK9Y 5.1.2 Channel Soundbar.

That’s a lot of kit to purchase and set up, but Apple will have compatible content available this fall for those who are ready to go. According to a handy chart at flatpanelshd.com, the movies in iTunes that support Dolby Atmos at the time this article was published include:

    With Dolby Atmos replacing Dolby 5.1 will that now become standed for downloaded version’s too ? I mean the year is 2018 right, not 1998 DVD audio here.
