Dutch public broadcaster launches Apple TV app
Dutch public broadcaster NPO has released its on-demand and live streaming app on Apple TV offering access to all programs of the three national public channels NPO1, NPO 2 and NPO 3 in the Netherlands.
The app, entitled NPO Start, offers a series of free content for seven days as well as ad-free, high-definition content through an NPO Start Plus account for €2.95 a month. The premium version also offers 365 days catch-up, as well as the possibility to watch upcoming episodes of TV series.
The free service allows for multiple customer profiles, the ability to create individual viewing lists, save program favorites, and view an on-screen TV guide.
The main three national channels in the Netherlands are NPO 1 (a news, current affairs, sports and family channel), NPO 2 (arts, culture, politics, news, current affairs and religion), and NPO 3 (a youth and innovation channel).
The release of the NPO app is no small feat for Apple in its push to grow developer and user acceptance of Apple TV. The Netherlands is the 66th most populated country in the world with a population of 17 million.
