Hulu cuts subscriptions $2 a month for Cyber Monday
In one of the few Cyber Monday deals from streaming services, Hulu is discounting its subscription price $2 a month for a year to $5.99.
In actual fact, the offer was introduced by Hulu on Black Friday, but the company re-marketed it Monday on what is one of the biggest online shopping days of the year in the U.S.
The limited time offer includes a free 30-day trial period and is valid for new and “eligible” returning subscribers. The offer is for the standard Hulu service only and does not include Hulu with Live TV, it’s live streaming service of more than 50 channels.
After the first year, the monthly rate will return to $7.99 a month. The offer does not include add-on channels such as HBO and Showtime, which are separately priced.
In an email to interested subscribers, Hulu marketed the deal as “our best offer yet” and targeted it at former subscribers saying “Come Back”, hoping the enticement will grow its subscriber base. The company has one of the industry’s highest customer defection rates at 50 percent, according to research firm Parks Associates.
Hulu has been available on Apple TV since June of 2010 and is available through the AppStore.
