Jane Krakowski joins Apple’s Emily Dickinson series
30 Rock co-star Jane Krakowski has joined the cast of Apple’s upcoming Dickinson series, according to a report from Variety on Wednesday.
Dickinson, which was ordered in May by Apple, is a half-hour show about the life of American poet Emily Dickinson, who will be played by Hailee Steinfeld. Steinfeld is known for her roles in True Grit, Pitch Perfect 2, Pitch Perfect 3, and Edge of Seventeen.
Krakowski will play Dickinson’s mother. Krakowski has worked on 30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Ally McBeal, Alfie, Ice Age, and National Lampoon’s Vacation.
Dickinson is described as a comedic look into Emily Dickinson’s world exploring the constraints of society, gender, and family from the perspective of a budding writer who doesn’t fit into her own time.
The show is being written and executive produced by Alena Smith, a previous writer on The Affair and The Newsroom.
The Dickinson series is just one of over 15 original television shows Apple has authorized. Apple has yet to explain how it plans to distribute its content, but has given the impression it is leaning toward launching a new streaming video service that might be bundled with other media content including music, magazines, and news. Rumors suggest the first of Apple’s television shows could debut in March 2019.
