Live sports listings coming soon to Apple TV app, sources confirm
Live sports listings will soon be an added feature of the Apple TV app as part of tvOS version 11.2, an independent developer and an app developer associated with a large television network have confirmed to BESTAppleTV.com. The update is expected to be released by mid-December.
The addition of sports listings linked directly to live games will be part of programming schedules from various networks including ESPN and possibly NBC Sports, sources said.
The TV app will include a separate tab for sports programming, an alert option for close scoring games, and a ‘spoiler alert’ feature to exclude scores from displaying in the app.
Apple VP Eddy Cue previewed the new sports listing feature in September at the debut of Apple TV 4K.
One source with access to beta versions of tvOS 11.2 reports the sports listings feature is not part of beta version four which was released Friday, but that certain embedded commands in the update and discussions between certain developers and Apple are clear evidence that the feature is near completion.
Apple Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services, Eddy Cue, hinted at the new sports listing feature in September during a keynote address for new Apple products, including the debut of the Apple TV 4K device.
“If you’re a huge sports fan like I am, you’re really gonna love this feature,” Cue said in September. “Sports in the TV app is a real game changer for sports fans.”
