New channels/pricing for YouTube TV
YouTube TV is expanding its channel lineup and adjusting their prices. The announcement came on Wednesday, but we want to make sure you saw it in case you’re still looking for a new streaming service in the wake of DirecTV Now’s price hike and channel drop.
Specifically, YouTube TV subscribers will now get access to eight Discovery network brands. These include:
- Discovery Channel
- Food Network
- Investigation Discovery
- Animal Planet
- Travel Channel
EPIX is also now available, but for an additional charge. Later this year, YouTube TV will also add OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
All told, YouTube TV now includes 70+ networks and supports up to six separate accounts per household (each with its own unique recommendations and cloud DVR with no storage space limits) and three simultaneous streams. The service also provides complete local affiliate coverage, “… with local feeds from all of the four largest broadcasters in over 90% of the markets where YouTube TV is available, and three of four stations in all the rest.”
As for the price change, new subscriptions are now set at $49.99/month. Current members will see the price change on their invoice after May 13th. Of note to Apple TY users, subscriptions managed through iTunes are set at $54.99/month, so you’ll want to start your subscription directly through YouTube TV to save $5.00/month.
