NHL opens season with improved Apple TV experience

The 2017-18 NHL regular season has begun with a new and enhanced digital experience for fans watching NHL.tv via the Apple TV set-top box. Subscribers can now customize the app to their favorite team with all-new team pages and team video content. The service is now offering 60 frames per second live and on-demand streaming video of every game, something that is new to the service.

Along with the PlayStation app, the service on Apple TV is offering milestone markers that let fans jump directly to big plays. The feature is available on those two platforms only for a limited time, the NHL said in a prepared statement.

NHL.tv returns with all the usual features including live scores and stats, live-ticking game and power-play clocks, video highlights, customized alerts, breaking news. This year, however, it will also offer integration with Ticketmaster, allowing fans to view, resell, and share tickets directly through the app.

NHL.tv broadcasts out-of-market games to subscribers on multiple devices like desktop, laptop, mobile and set-top boxes like the Apple TV for a yearly price of $120. Each team in the NHL plays 82 regular season games, 41 each at home and on the road. In all, 1,271 games are scheduled (480 of them inter-conference).
