Report: New 5th-gen Apple TV rollout set for Sept. 12

French Apple news site Mac4Ever is reporting Apple will announce a new version of the Apple TV streaming media player at an event on September 12th, citing mobile phone carrier sources. The web site is also reporting that the highlight of the event with Apple CEO Tim Cook (shown in the photo above) will be the rollout of three new iPhones.

The site says mobile phone operators are the prime source for the event date as they have already been told when to expect the Apple announcement so as to prepare inventory and marketing for the imminent new devices.

If the event date is correct, an official announcement from Apple on a date is expected to be announced by September 1st.

Rumors abound on features of an expected fifth-generation Apple TV player including 4K video capability, optimization for TVs capable of playing High Dynamic Range (HDR) video, a more powerful processor, a possible storage boost to 128 gigabytes or more, and better integration of Siri through HomeKit to compete with Amazon Echo or Google Home.

At its Worldwide Developers Conference keynote on June 5th of this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that there would be “a lot more about tvOS later this year,” but gave no further details.
