Sling TV offering 29 channels at 60fps, service announces

Users of the live and on-demand streaming service Sling TV now have access to 29 different channels offering video at 60 frames per second, including a large number of sports-related networks like ESPN and Fox Sports, as well as movie channels like HBO and Showtime.

Frame rate expressed in frames per second, or fps, is the rate at which consecutive images, called frames, are refreshed on a display. The term applies equally to film and video cameras, computer graphics, and motion capture systems. For television and streaming, the standard frame rate for television in North America and Japan has been 30 fps. In parts of Europe, Africa and southeast Asia the rate is 25 fps.

At 60 fps, the refresh rate is more than double taking advantage of technology in newer televisions that read faster frames rates making images – like sports – smoother and less jagged.

The channels now offering programming in 60fps on Sling TV include:

  • AXS TV
  • Cinemax
  • EPIX
  • EPIX 2
  • EPIX Hits
  • EPIX Drive-In
