Tastemade, TYT Network join YouTube TV lineup today

Streaming service YouTube TV is adding two new channels – Tastemade and TYT Network – to its channel lineup on Thursday, the company has announced.

Tastemade is a travel, food and lifestyle media company, while TYT – better known to many as ‘The Young Terks’ – focuses on news commentary, politics and entertainment. The additions are among a cluster of internet-only channels the service has been adding. In April the service added Cheddar, a dedicated financial-news channel, along with the general-interest Cheddar Big News channel.

Heather Moosnick, director of content partnerships, has confirmed the additions are part of an emphasis to combine traditional TV networks with internet-only channels and that the Google-owned network is in talks with other partners about launching 24-hour channels.

“We’ve seen them build huge and engaged audiences over the years [on YouTube],” said Moosnick. “In news and lifestyle, these are really compelling content areas for us. We’re excited to see them join the rest of the best of television, which YouTube TV already carries.”

Tastemade and TYT are producing original shows representing several hundred hours of original programming that will be available only to YouTube TV subscribers. Tastemade plans to release 10 new shows over the course of 2018 while TYT Network will launch four new shows later this year.

YouTube TV launched in April 2017 and is currently available in 99 U.S. cities (for a full list of cities, click here) broadcasting more than 50 traditional broadcast and cable networks. The service currently broadcasts 460 local network affiliates covering over 70 percent of the nation’s TV households. YouTube TV launched its app on Apple TV in February.
