Through April 30th, Apple will “GiveBack” for your old Apple TV
Thinking about upgrading to the Apple TV 4K but don’t know what to do with your old one? Or maybe you already upgraded and the previous model is just sitting in a box somewhere, taking up space. Apple would now like to take it back, and in return, they plan to GiveBack to the planet.
If you trade in any eligible Apple or competitor device, you’ll get an estimate for an Apple Store gift card or instant Apple Store credit. You can mail the product in with a prepaid package that is sent to you, or you can take it directly to an Apple Store. Products eligible for Apple Credit can also be recycled for free. And if you’ve looked into technology recycling before, you’ll know the reason many don’t do this is because of the hefty costs. It’s great to see Apple pushing recycling along by (sometimes) offering it for free.
The Apple TV is not eligible for a credit, unfortunately, just recycling. However, Apple will now make a donation to Conservation International for every device they receive through trades initiated by April 30th. That includes the Apple TV.
So, if you want to dispose of your older model in a responsible fashion while also helping to support this top-rated charity, head over to Apple’s website to get the process started. They have an extensive FAQ that should answer all of your questions, and while you’re there you can learn about Daisy, their disassembly robot, capable of dismantling up to 200 iPhones per hour.
Good thing machines aren’t eligible for employee-of-the-month awards.
