DirecTV Now launches free Apple TV 4K deal

As first reported by November 14th, the live streaming service DirecTV Now is now giving away a free 32GB version of the Apple TV 4K set-top box with a new, four-month prepaid subscription beginning today.

The offer comes to a total of $140 paid up front for the service, a $30 savings from the regular $179 cost of the fifth-generation 4K model. The offer expires December 31st.

The offer requires subscribers to pay via credit card or PayPal. Online orders will be shipped via FedEx ground, allowing up to three weeks for delivery. Higher tier-priced packages are also available for $50, $60 and $70 a month with more additional channels in each bundle.

To find the offer, visit the DirecTV Now website, and follow these steps:

  • Click “Start your free trial now” here.
  • Create your account.
  • Select the “Live a Little” tab “w/ 60+ Live Channels.”
  • Select “Skip for Now” on the add-ons page.
  • Select the Free 4K Apple TV and “Add to Plan.”
  • Proceed to checkout.

UPDATE: Disregard any reference to the offer requiring a five-month commitment. An AT&T representative has confirmed to that the online reference is incorrect.

The Apple TV 4K offer requires a pre-paid purchase for a minimum of four months. The offer expires December 31st.

The offer was reported by customers who saw mentions of it on multiple message forums related to the service. A spokesperson for AT&T, the parent company of DirecTV Now, has not responded to our repeated attempts for comment or additional details.

As we first reported November 8th, DirecTV Now is celebrating its one-year anniversary with a $25 discount for the first month to all new subscribers of any package when they sign up with the promo code “BDAY2017” at checkout. The offer is good until the end of 2017.

The offer will not be the first time DirecTV Now has promoted a free Apple TV. It did the same in November of last year when the service debuted and just this past August on three-month prepaid subscriptions.

DirecTV Now has more than 800,000 subscribers nationwide based on numbers from AT&Ts 2017 second-quarter earnings report.

DirecTV Now launched in November of 2016 using the Apple TV app with an entry-level package price of $35 per month for over 60 channels. For optimal streaming, DirecTV Now recommends a minimum of 12 Mbps for broadband connections to the home and to an Apple TV set-top box.
