Vizio confirms 2016 4K TVs to include AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support

TV manufacturer Vizio has confirmed it will add AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support to its 2016 4K SmartCast televisions, making it one of the only electronics makers to integrate Airplay 2 into older models. BESTAppleTV has learned that support will be available sometime in the calendar second quarter of this year.

Vizio’s technical support team confirmed the news in a Twitter post in response to a consumers question. 2017 SmartCast models feature the same hardware as 2016 models, leaving little issues for Vizio to add the technology.

Apple published online a list of all AirPlay 2-enabled television sets on its HomeKit website earlier this week. Vizio announced on January 7th it would support the Apple standards. The Vizio models officially supported at this time include…

– Vizio P-Series Quantum (2019 and 2018)
– Vizio P-Series (2019, 2018 and 2017)
– Vizio M-Series (2019, 2018 and 2017)
– Vizio E-Series (2019, 2018 and 2017)
– Vizio D-series (2019, 2018 and 2017)

Sony, LG, and Samsung are also enabling HomeKit support, but on 2018 and 2019 models only, having made those announcements this past week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
