WatchTV coming to Apple TV as app “next week”, company confirms

AT&T’s streaming television service WatchTV will debut “next week” with the service launching simultaneously with an Apple TV app on its inaugural day, a company spokesman has confirmed to

The company has confirmed that wireless customers subscribing to its two new unlimited plans will be able to watch the service through the Apple TV app at no additional charge.

The spokesman also confirmed those not wanting to subscribe to an AT&T wireless plan can subscribe to WatchTV only. “If you just want to get WatchTV on its own and do not sign up for one of these plans, WatchTV is available to anyone for $15 a month,” the spokesman said.

Exactly what day the service and its app will be available on the Apple TV App Store is not know. A website for consumers to subscribe to the service or subscribe to either of the unlimited wireless plans has yet to be made public.

The debut of the service was announced Thursday following various comments from AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson confirming the service would be announced soon, just days ago.

The service will be launched a little over two months since word was first made public that AT&T planned to release a ‘skinny bundle’ of television channels without sports compared to the similar competitive service Philo which has yet to launch on Apple TV and debuted on other platforms more than seven months ago.
