What’s new for Apple TV, April 11th, 2019

Free bowling and creepy, classic, and LGBTQ+ video streams highlight this week’s new Apple TV apps. The updates will help you follow the Stanley Cup playoff action, learn your fish, and get drunk.

Prices provided below are accurate at press time. Free downloads are for the app only and may require a subscription or in-app purchases for full functionality.

New Apple TV Apps:

  • The Criterion Channel (free) – Streaming access to all the Criterion Collection has to offer…and a little bit more. Check out our full coverage.
  • Bowling Remote (free) – Bowl with your Siri Remote (consider it a bare-bones Wii Bowling). Complete free with no ads or IAPs.
  • YYOGA at Home (free) – Yoga education and workouts “…to help you live your healthiest and most fulfilled life.” Includes Hatha, Flow, Power, Restorative, Yin, Meditation, Pilates, Barre, Core, Sculpt, Pre-Natal, Post-Natal, and other strength-focused signature fitness classes.
  • Ranker Culture, Creepy, Weird (free) – Go on a paranormal thrill ride. Pop culture, creepy, and weird videos. Series include RankWorthy, Deadtime Stories, Weird History and Weirdly Interesting, with more to come.
  • Tello Films (free) – The best of LGBTQ+ women’s content, curated by queer women looking to provide a safe space for content creators and viewers.

Updated Apple TV Apps:

  • NHL (free) – It’s only bug fixes and performance enhancements, but the playoffs started yesterday so it seems appropriate. LET’S GO ANYONE BUT PITTSBURGH!
  • Tablo (free) – This OTV DVR for cord-cutters has been updated with support for automatic commercial skipping and an initial setup process for ethernet connections.
  • See ‘N Say Underwater Animals ($1.99) – Like the Fisher-Price See ‘n Say you had as a toddler, but with mini-movies and fun facts. I wonder if it’ll get out of sync like that barn one always did.
  • Easy Comic Reader ($1.99) – Store your digital comics on cloud services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive, and read them on your Apple TV. Supports CBZ, CBR, CB7, CBT, Zip, and Rar formats.
  • Wateky – Drinking Game (free) – Drinking games to help you and your friends have fun. Or grow to hate each other. Or just get drunk. I guess it depends upon your friends and the game. Five games are included, and you can buy more.
